STAYING AT OUR POST
Companions as we are in this work with you, we
beg you, please don't squander one bit of this
marvelous life God has given us. God reminds us,
"I heard your call in the nick of time; The
day you needed me, I was there to help."
Well, now is the right time to listen, the day
to be helped. Don't put it off; don't frustrate
God's work by showing up late, throwing a
question mark over everything we're doing. Our
work as God's servants gets validated - or not -
in the details. People are watching us as we stay
at our post, alertly, unswervingly . . .in hard
times, tough times, bad times, when we're beaten
up, jailed, and mobbed; working hard, working
late, working without eating; with pure heart,
clear head, steady hand; in gentleness, holiness,
and honest love; when we're telling the truth,
and when God's showing his power, when we're
doing our best setting things right; when we're
praised, and when we're blamed; slandered, and
honored; true to our word, though distrusted;
ignored by the world, but recognized by God;
terrifically alive, though rumored to be dead;
beaten within an inch of our lives, but refusing
to die; immersed in tears, yet always filled with
deep joy; living on handouts, yet enriching many;
having nothing, having it all.
Dear, dear (Pastors), I can't tell you how
much I long for you to enter this wide-open,
spacious life. We didn't fence you in. The
smallness you feel comes from within you. Your
lives aren't small, but you're living them in a
small way. I'm speaking as plainly as I can and
with great affection. Open up your lives. Live
openly and expansively!
Don't become partners with those who reject
God. (Choose your friends carefully.) How can you
make a partnership out of right and wrong? That's
not partnership; that's war. Is light best
friends with dark? Does Christ go strolling with
the Devil? Do trust and mistrust hold hands? Who
would think of setting up pagan idols in God's
Holy Temple? But that is exactly what we are,
each of us a temple in whom God lives. God
himself put it this way:
"I'll live in them, move into them;
I'll be their God and they'll be my people.
so leave the corruption and compromise;
leave it for good," says God.
"Don't link up with those who will pollute
you.
I want you all for myself.
I'll be a Father to you;
you'll be sons and daughters to me."
The Word of the Master, God."

the Apostle Paul, speaking the the Corinthians.

HUMOR FROM THE CHAT ROOM
Justaservn, relates the story of a Sunday
School teacher who was teaching the children
about the good Samaritan. He asked the children
if they knew why the priests had passed by the
man on the road to Jericho. A little girl raised
her hand and said, "Because he had already
been robbed?"

More Humor From The Pulpit
NO , IT CAN'T BE !
"You'll be preaching in three weeks ,"
said my supervising pastor soon after I"d
arrived to begin internship . I'd expected to be
in the pulpit sooner but was grateful for the
reprieve . The big day approached and as usual I
had everything organized .
Part of my plan was to be at church for the 8
a.m. service by 6:45 . That way I could practice
a bit and get the feel of "the stage ."
Horrors ! I jerked awake at 7:40 a.m. and , eyes
abulge , `shook my wife . "Why didn't you
wake me ? I fairly screamed . She mumbled
something , but I was already flying toward the
bathroom , where I brushed my teeth for a few
seconds . " Maybe I can shave after the
first service ," I said to myself .
"But that hair. Oof ! No time ." Time .
Why hadn't the alarm gone off ? Aha ! It hadn't
gone off because I'd never set it . I was racing
around like a madman early Saturday morning . Who
me---anxious? Whatever gave you that idea ?
THE REV. JOHNNY BELL
ONWARD , CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS
Some time ago we phoned an orphanage in Brazil to
ask how our congregation--Streams in the Desert
Lutheran Church -- could help . Maybe it was a
missed translation or simply a bad connection .
Whatever , the first letter we received from the
orphanage was addressed to "Desert Firearms
Lutheran Church ."

"A PRECIOUS LOVE SONG FOR
THEE"
You woke me up this morning
so tenderly,
with a gentle breeze,
Your whispers of love
bringing me
directly to my knees.
My voice gave way to singing
a precious love song for Thee,
my tears praising Jesus
through a stirring melody,
befitting our True King
as He shed His blood for me.
Oh, how I love Thee
as He hung with His arms
open wide for me,
loving me unconditionally,
above and beyond all that I can perceive.
Like an eagle rising,
I soared above the clouds
to greet Thee,
dancing atop His mighty wings,
His wings of love for me.
All that I can see
is His love for me
He's all that I want to sing
A precious love song for Thee
Oh how I love Thee
Oh how much more He loves me...
His loving arms wide open for me...
Jesus....
King of Kings.....
