AN EMMAUS WALK
A couple of times I have talked with a few of
the pastor's wives who have mentioned that they
were going to be gone for a few days on an
"Emmaus Walk". Now, some of you are
familiar with the term. I had heard it a couple
of times, but really didn't know all the dynamics
of it and what the purpose of it was. The last PW
that I talked to that was going to be involved in
one of these, I snagged and asked her if she
would give me something to put in the newsletter,
so that others could be exposed to this avenue of
ministry and discipleship. Thank you TJBzoo for
your time and willingness to share with us!!!

Hi. Here is the information on Emmaus. It
comes from a brochure (The Upper Room Emmaus for
the development of Christian leaders).
A JOURNEY WITH CHRIST The Gospel of St. Luke
relates the story of the risen Christ appearing
to two who were going along the road from
Jerusalem to Emmaus. ( Luke 24:13-35)
WHAT IS THE WALK TO EMMAUS? The Walk to Emmaus
is a three-day experience which takes a New
Testament look at Christianity as a lifestyle. It
is a highly structured weekend designed to
strengthen and renew the faith of Christian
people, and through them their families,
congregations and the world in which they live.
Emmaus is a combined effort of laity and clergy
toward the renewal of the church.
WHAT HAPPENS AT EMMAUS? The "Walk to
Emmaus" is a 72-hour experience. The weekend
begins on Thursday evening and ends Sunday
evening. At Emmaus you will spend three busy but
very enjoyable days, usually at a retreat center.
You will live and study together in singing,
prayer, worship, and discussion. Discussions
center around fifteen talks given by laity and
clergy. These talks present the theme of God's
grace, and how that grace comes alive in the
Christian community and expresses itself in the
world. You'll also discover how grace is real in
your life, and how you can live in the life of
grace, bringing grace to others. You will have
the opportunity to participate in the daily
celebration of Holy Communion, and to begin to
understand more fully the presence of Christ in
his body of believers. You will experience God's
grace personally through the prayers and acts of
service of a living support community.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER EMMAUS? One of the primary
strengths of Emmaus is the follow-up. Your
weekend lasts only three days, but you are
invited to build on it for the rest of your life.
By studying your Bible, congregational
participation, become an active disciple of
Christ in the world through your churches.
PURPOSE OF EMMAUS The focus of Emmaus is God
as known in Jesus Christ and how that finds
expression in the local church. The objective of
Emmaus in to inspire, challenge, and equip local
church members for Christian action in their
homes, churches, and place of work. Emmaus lifts
up a way for grace-filled life to be lived and
shared with others.
WHO SHOULD GO TO EMMAUS? Emmaus is for the
development of Christian leaders who:
+ wish to strengthen their spiritual lives;
+ may have unanswered questions about prayer,
study, and sharing their faith;
+ understand that being a Christian involves
responsibility;
+ are willing to dedicate their everyday lives to
God in an ongoing manner;
+ have position of responsibility in the church
and the world.
Emmaus is open to members of any denomination.

Okay, I'm a Pastors Wife. . .
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME ANYWAY???
Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace
given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to
think of himself more highly than he ought to
think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to
each one a measure of faith.
Rom 8:4-6 . . . that the righteous requirement
of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not
walk according to the flesh but according to the
Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh
set their minds on the things of the flesh, but
those who live according to the Spirit, the
things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded
is death, but to be spiritually minded is life
and peace.
Gal 5:6-26 For in Christ Jesus neither
circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything,
but faith working through love. You ran well. Who
hindered you from obeying the truth? This
persuasion does not come from Him who calls you.
A little leaven leavens the whole lump. I have
confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will
have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall
bear his judgment, whoever he is. And I,
brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do
I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of
the cross has ceased. I could wish that those who
trouble you would even cut themselves off! For
you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only
do not use liberty as an opportunity for the
flesh, but through love serve one another. For
all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in
this: "You shall love your neighbor as
yourself." But if you bite and devour one
another, beware lest you be consumed by one
another! I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you
shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the
flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit
against the flesh; and these are contrary to one
another, so that you do not do the things that
you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you
are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh
are evident, which are: adultery, fornication,
uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred,
contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath,
selfish ambitions, dissentions, heresies, envy,
murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of
which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told
you in time past, that those who practice such
things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But
the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control. Against such there is
no law. And those who are Christ's have crucified
the flesh with its passions and desires. If we
live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the
Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking
one another, envying one another.
James 3:17-18 But the wisdom that is from
above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle,
willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits,
without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the
fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those
who make peace. (NKJ)

HOW Many Where At Promise Keepers???
One guy from my church said that there were at
least 200,000 there. His reasoning was that there
were 200,000 men in line in front of him when he
went to use the port-a-potty, and that not
everybody needed to go at the same time. (Or
maybe it only seemed like 200,000.....) ~ Byron

CHUCKLES
This one is on myself. . . tee hee
While preparing for last weeks public chat, I
was having difficulty with choosing the proper IM
greeting. This is the greeting that everyone gets
the second they enter a chat, telling them what
the topic of the chat is. With only 15 minutes to go,
and after having done all my preparation for the
chat, I thought I would be "smart" and
quickly slip into the Power Tools Online Forum to
talk to a technician about my difficulty.
Patiently waiting for my turn in line, there
was a sudden burst of activity as 6 - 8 people
entered the lounge to ask their technical
question. Much to my dismay, I had forgotten to
turn off my Auto Greet. All of the newcomers
received their own personal greeting which said,
"Good Morning {their name}! Nice to see you!
This morning's special chat is regarding the
Seduction of Adultery."
Frantically I was clicking through my windows
to turn off the IM as it flashed a few more
unsuspecting newcomers. It was then that I
received this IM in answer, "Thank you,. . .
. but that really wasn't my problem right
now!" Praise God for people with a sense of
humor!!! (I'm so relieved that it didn't say WHO
the chat was for!!!!) LOL
