~ There's JOY in the
Kitchen ~
~When we realize that ~
It's not your outlook but your "uplook"
that counts.
A Word from JoyfulArt
It's hard to believe
that Sarah's Tent was birthed just 49 weeks ago!
In that time, leaders from all denominations have
come together to fellowship, love, pray and
encourage one another. Dear friends have been
made and lives changed. Many on the verge of
quitting have discovered that they had value and
gained insight to the problems that were causing
them discouragment. Marriages have been healed or
are well on their way to healing.
We are now offering over
8 chats, a weekly newsletter filled with
inspiration, testimonies, and fun things as well
as a monthly newsletter which highlights serious
issues within the church and communities. Several
parachurch ministries are beginning to network
with us to offer pastors and their wives more
resources and support.
The future holds many
exciting things, the beginning of which is our
FIRST Pastor's Wives Retreat in Winterpark, CO
April 30- May 1& 2. The Pastor's wives will
soon be receiving information regarding this for
a much needed time of refreshment, restoration
and inspiration. Many do not realize the
pressures and stress that a pastor's wife is
under - who does SHE vent to? Don't you know that
if the enemy can get to HER, he can get to her
husband, the pastor. If he can get to the pastor
- he has the congregation! Her time with the Lord
and other "PW's" is vital for her
health, marriage and family
Faith doesn't
make anything happen - faith rests on something
that has happened!
The Hidden Gift
(Cweimer4)
So often times in our
ministry we are given things by others. You know
the story - the Jones decide that they are tired
of their old ugly furniture. After purchasing a
lovely new couch, they do not want to waste the
old, ugly, 70's flowered couch. After all things
were built better back then so it has at least 10
more good years. "Let's give it to the
Pastor and their family. This way we can bless
them and won't feel like we just threw it
away." Any of you know that story? We have
in our 5 years of full time ministry and 9 years
of marriage, received several of these pieces of
furniture. Whether it be in the form of the plaid
brown tweed couch, the rust rock hard chair, the
tan and slightly stained chair, the blue ripped
couch, the ten foot long couch, the maroon love
seat, the floral hide-a-bed and finally the green
and yellow striped hide-a-bed. Each of these were
given as a means of blessing our family.
The last couch we
received, the green and yellow striped
hide-a-bed, was just too ugly for me to bear. So,
when it arrived at our house, I suggested they
put it in the garage because, "I will have
to find the right spot for it." In my mind
it was in the right spot now. That couch sat in
our garage for over 6 months, causing more
clutter and a constant reminder that we had to do
something with it.
Now many of you know
that I run a daycare. Because of the abuse my
furniture has taken we recently had had to throw
away two recliners. The only furniture we had
left was a little ugly couch. We were expecting
company for New Years Day and there just wasn't
anywhere for these people to sit, except the
floor. I regretably told my husband that we had
to bring in the other couch. Perhaps it wouldn't
be so bad with the couch cover I had. So, in came
the ugly couch.
Something happened since
that couch came in. It happened drastically but,
you know how hard it is for us humans to
recognize things when they are staring us right
in the face. For the first time in our families
life, all four of us have been able to sit
together and, as we call it, snuggle. My boys,
ages 4 and 6 are excited for the times that we
get to be a family on the couch, without being
squished.
Many times God gives us
gifts that are a blessing in disguise. They may
come in the form of a generous gift of money or
an ugly old couch. However, He has a set purpose
for the gift in blessing our lives. I feel bad
that I took that precious gift from God and hid
it away in the garage for six months. That is six
months that we missed out on a blessing that God
wanted to share with us. It made me wonder how
many other times I missed out on a blessing from
God because I did not think it was good enough. I
am just thankful that Christ did die on the
cross, even though many did not feel he was good
enough to be considered a king, let alone my
Savior.

Pumpkin
"Cake-in-a-Jar
Submitted by (Billie)
2/3 cup shortening
2 2/3 cup sugar
4 eggs
2 cup pumpkin - fresh pureed (or canned)
2/3 cup water
3 1/3 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cloves - ground
1/2 tsp allspice
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp baking soda
1 cup walnuts - chopped
8 pint jars - wide mouth w/lids and rings for
sealing
8 wax paper circles cut to fit inside jars
Cream shortening and
sugar together, adding sugar slowly. Beat in
eggs, pumpkin and water. Set aside. Sift together
flour, baking powder, salt, ground cloves,
allspice, cinnamon and baking soda. Add to
pumpkin mixture and stir well. Stir in nuts. Pour
batter into greased canning jars, filling
half-full. Place jars on cookie sheet. Bake
upright in preheated 325 degree oven for about 45
minutes. (Cake will rise and pull away from sides
of jar.) When done, remove one jar at a time from
oven. While still warm, place wax paper circle on
the top end of the cake. Wipe sealing edge of
jar. Place lid on jar and close tightly with
ring. Turn jar upside down. (Cake will loosen at
this time.) Repeat with other jars. Leave jars
upside down until sealed. (Jar is sealed if lid
remains flat when pressed in center.) To serve:
Open jar, slide a knife around inside of the jar
to loosen the cake, and remove the cake from the
jar. Warm cake in the oven if desired. Slice and
serve with whipped cream.
***From ALASKA Magazine,
Oct. 1990, P.74*** >
From liner notes: This
dessert treat is baked and presented in a
wide-mouth canning jar. Because the jar is
sealed, the cake keeps indefinitely. It can be
made well ahead. Bon Apetite! Billie For even

Prayer and the Athiest
Submitted by (Julia)
There was a Christian
lady who lived next door to an atheist. Everyday,
when the lady prayed, the atheist guy could hear
her. He thought to himself, "She sure is
crazy, praying all the time like that. Doesn't
she know there isn't a God?" Many times
while she was praying, he would go to her house
and harass her, saying "Lady, why do you
pray all the time? Don't you know there is no
God?" But she kept on praying.
One day, she ran out of
groceries. As usual, she was praying to the Lord
explaining her situation and thanking Him for
what He was gonna do. AS USUAL, the atheist heard
her praying and thought to himself.
"Hmph...I'll fix her." He went to the
grocery store, bought a whole bunch of groceries,
took them to her house, dropped them off on the
front porch, rang the doorbell and then hid in
the bushes to see what she would do. When she
opened the door and saw the groceries, she began
to praise the Lord with all her heart, jumping,
singing and shoutin' everywhere! The atheist then
jumped out of the bushes and told her, "You
ol' crazy lady, God didn't buy you those
groceries, I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I bought those
groceries!"
Well, she broke out and
started running down the street, shouting and
praising the Lord. When he finally caught her, he
asked what her problem was...She said, "I
KNEW THE LORD WOULD PROVIDE ME WITH SOME
GROCERIES, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS GONNA MAKE
THE DEVIL PAY FOR THEM!"
