"Ships In The Night"

LZSews writes, "Maybe if you use this in the newsletter it might be fun for
people to then submit some of the "small ships" that God has provided for them
in their lives during difficult times. I know for me, there have been many
and like the article says, we need to LOOK for them when God sends them and
GET in them without feeling guilty! We want to be sure to "never miss the
boat!" We could start a whole chain reaction of providing small ships for
others in ministry, whether it's offering to babysit for even 1 hour or
delivering a dinner to a tired mom, or dropping off a basket of bubble bath,
candles, tapes, etc. and taking the kids out for an hour so mom can soak! The
possibilities are endless and like it is so often true, when we're immersed in
serving others, we often forget our own problems and if this catches
on...someone is bound to do it for us someday!
Well anyway...here ya go!

This article comes from the Free Church Women's Ministries Newsletter,
April, 1997:

>From one pastor's wife to another...
Twice in Scriptures (Matthew 13 and Luke 5) we find Christ ministering to
people from a small ship. Both times it was in the midst of a busy, tiring
day.

("The people pressed upon Him" Luke 5:1). How well those in the Lord's work
KNOW that feeling. God's woolly sheep can encompass their shepherd and press
on him from all sides until he almost falls. People can be pushy--even God's
people, and the servants of God can become "people tired." Moses felt this:
"You lay the burden of all this people upon me and I am not able to bear it
alone. It is too heavy." (Numbers 11:11-14). Paul felt it: "Moreover the
care of the church..." (II Cor. 11:28). Even CHRIST felt the pressure. Each
one in the crowd wanted to see better, hear more, push in closer. It is not
sin when you and I wish could run away. Notice, however, that Jesus got into
a small ship and commanded it to be pushed out a little from shore. He STILL
MINISTERED, but He did it from a small ship, sitting down--for He was weary.

He knows how you feel. He understands, and He will provide for you a small
ship. He knows when you are almost to break. Sometimes it is just a quiet
evening at home...letting our soul catch up with our body...or that mini-
vacation...a new tool to make the work easier...that special conference...or
just 10 minutes in the bathroom without the children fighting or pounding on
the door!

We need to watch for God's small ships...to be grateful for them...to get in
them and not feel guilty about doing so. To sit down a bit...to still
minister...but to put a little water between us and the pressing
circumstances.

Just A Couple of Thoughts . . .

* As I hear from more and more pastors, I am amazed at the simularities in
all of us, even though we come from various denominations. However, there are
some important differences that we need to be all aware of and sensitive to.
Some of our brothers and sisters who are just "coming on board" with us, are
still bleeding from their battles. As we meet new ministers, pray that you
will be a blessing to them, whether it is by laughter, or prayer, or allowing
them to just listen and watch. Some are weary and need time to heal and trust
again. If you find that someone is being allusive, please be loving, you don't
know where they have just come from, and by your unconditional love and
acceptance you will be ministering to them in a way that words cannot.

* * Many of the pastors, (our beloved husbands) may not be the type to
initiate conversations with other pastors that they do not know. They might
even be checking their mail hoping that someone will write and break the ice.
There are many questions that our men will voice to us, and wish that they
knew how other pastors were handling "that situation", or "what they thought
of. . . " Perhaps, if they knew what was on the minds of their fellow
brothers, they might begin some correspondence to one another. Here is a
simple one which my own husband has asked regarding something administrative:
"Where do other pastors have their offices located? What is working for them?"
If you or your husband would like to respond, please write PastorDP . Let me
know of other questions that come up. (Everything from where the office is
best located to how do I discipline a trouble maker in the church?)

* * * This ministry is a support system made up of Pastors & their Wives
encouraging, praying and laughing with one another as well as sharing their
many experiences, and resources. Encourage one another to pass this love and
this vision on. We are here for one another, not to compare or judge, but to
relate to and link arms with one another in these last days.

Do you have a question which you would like see discussed? Just drop me a line
with it - even if you may know the answer - someone else might be asking it!

Cook stirring until thickened, 10 minutes or so. Spread evenly over bottom
and 1" up sides of a 3 qt. shallow casserole. Set aside.

cup of the taco sauce, corn, kidney beans, sour cream and half of the cheese.
Spoon into crust (can be frozen or chilled up to one day at this point). Bake
