A Lesson On Endurance
by DwlNScrtPl
The other morning I was reading Matthew
24:1-13. These verses deal with the prediction of
the destruction of the temple, signs of the times
and the end of the age. But, as I read verse 13
which says, " But he who endures to the end
shall be saved." (NKJV), I got stuck on one
word. ENDURES! Yep, I thought that is what I am
doing alright! But, God began to give me some
insight on this word and these verses.
In Webster's Dictionary endures in the verb
transitive is, " To sustain; to bear; to
undergo; to tolerate." To me these words
seemed to be in the negative tense. But, as I
scanned through my Bible that is full of sections
called Word Wealth I found a different meaning to
the word. Endures according to Strong's is to
hold one's ground in conflict, bear up against
adversity, hold on under stress, stand firm,
persevere under pressure, wait calmly and
courageously. Now what was God trying to tell me?
Noah, for 120 years, endured. Jacob, as he
wrestled all night with the angel who as a result
was crippled, endured. Christ, as He was as on
the Cross, endured. So I must stay with the
stuff, stand firm, wait calmly and courageously
as the Father molds me into a vessel of honor for
His use.
Sure, I tolerate a church member that
questions my husbands integrity. Sure, I undergo
trials and heartache over children who refuse to
go to church now that they are married, because
they have seen all their lives how church members
treat their parents. But, its not how we begin
our race it is how we finish it! Hitler started
out as a student in the priesthood. Stalin was a
seminary student. Look how they finished their
race. I want to be like the oxen pulling the
plow. You feed him hay, he keeps on plowing and
plowing and plowing. God's Word is my hay! He
feeds me with His sweet words to give me strength
to ENDURE!
Calvary was where Christ fought the war.
Gethsemane is where He prayed and refused to not
give up as His blood became drops of blood.
Winston Churchill said in one of his speeches,
"NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give up!" With
this in mind I know what God was saying to me. I
am not to endure in the negative. Endure now has
a new meaning to me. I am to waiting calmly and
courageously as the Lord molds me. I am to stand
my ground and hold on under stress. He is the
defender of His servants. I say to you, I know
these are rough times for the Pastor and his
wife. Church members can drive you nuts and cause
you pain. But, God is able to do exceedingly
above all that we could ask or think. ENDURE!

I Am

I was regretting the past and fearing the future.
Suddenly my Lord was speaking;
"My name is I AM"
He paused.
I waited. He continued.
"When you live in the past with its mistakes
and regrets it is hard.
I am not there.
My name is not I WAS.
When you live in the future, with its problems
and fears, it is hard.
I am not there.
My name is not I WILL BE.
When you live in the moment, it is not hard.
I am here. My name is I AM.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Shannon,
I would like to share with you something that
helped me beyond all measure. As I read the
beginning of Joy this week, I could sure relate
to the feelings you had, had. I used to have so
many things from my childhood, dealing with my
parents and family over the years. I kept
thinking I had forgiven each and every one for
different things . But low and behold there would
come something that would just dredge up the old
feelings of hurt all over again.
A couple weeks ago as I went to my
Chiropractor who is a Godly man, I was sharing
with him some things, and he said "If you
have to talk about that, then you really have not
dealt with it" Whoah, hit me smack in the
nose! He went on to share that , yes we need to
forgive others, but first of all we must come to
a understanding of that person. As with my
parents, they only did what they had known and
been taught to do. If they never knew better then
that, then we cant' blame them for the wrong.
When I began to think about this, I realized I
was totally free once and for all. We as humans
make things so difficult for ourselves. Just
interchanging understanding with forgiveness,
puts a whole new light on everything. And it
takes any judgement of the person away. Hummmm
doesn't that take care of a few scriptures all in
one!
Hope this will help someone else to find true
freedom, from their pasts!
Blessings and Love, Sharon

I've been hit 3 times yesterday with info
about the Y2K computer problem up ahead. Does
anyone else feel this way? I even received a
check list of things to buy now to prepare for
the computer crash. Is this a real threat in the
next year? Maybe God wants me to be aware and be
prepared. I talked with my neighbor, she's in
another movement similar to mine, and she said
her and her husband have been discussing it too.
(She said Noah started the ark before the rain)
Isn't that weird? She said she's not afraid, and
I'm not either, it's just that it's been drawn to
my attention so much this week I think I should
give it some serious thought.
Is anyone else feeling this from the Lord?
Vicki

CHUCKLES

A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons,
Little Johnny, 5, and Ryan, 3. The boys began to
argue over who would get the first pancake. Their
mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson.
"If Jesus were sitting here, He would say,
'Let my brother have the first pancake. I can
wait.' Johnny turned to his younger brother and
said, "Ryan, you be Jesus!"
Kids hear the darndest things

Newly assigned officers to a Naval Air Station
are quite often "adopted" by a family.
One such young officer, a Lieut. Commander,
kind-of became an Uncle to the family's only 4
year old daughter. One Sunday, he asked her what
she had learned in Sunday School. She said she
had learned all about the ten commanders, and
that they were always broke. - - - - -
This same little girl, was told to draw her
conception of the Hebrews flight into Egypt. She
came home with a picture of an airplane, the
passengers all with halos and one person up front
without one. When asked about it, she explained,
"Oh, that's Pontius, the pilot." - - -

The Lord's Prayer has always been easy for
kids to misinterpret, either through poor
enunciators or from mumbling congregations. One
little boy, always a classic joke, said
"Harold be Thy name." Two other lesser
known prayers though are a little girl saying:
"Give us this day our jelly bread." Or
the little New York boy who petitioned God to
"Lead us not into Penn Station." - - -

After hearing the Christmas story, and singing
"Silent Night" a Sunday School Class in
Sao Paulo was asked to draw what they thought the
Nativity Scene might have looked like. One boy
did a good likeness of Joseph, Mary and the
infant, but off to the side was a roly-poly
figure. The teacher, afraid that he had somehow
worked Santa Claus into the scene asked him who
that was. She wasn't sure whether she was
relieved or even more worried when the boy
responded, "Oh, that's Round John
Virgin."
