"THOSE" People!
By JoyfulArt
Everyone knows that sooner or later, someone
is going to come into your life that will test
you to the limits. Try as you might, all they
have to do is walk into the room and your blood
pressure goes up, or you shrink in fear, or find
yourself seething in anger for no apparent
reason.
In pastoring, you will be SURE to meet more
than your share. Why? Beats me! Perhaps it is
because people expect pastors and their wives to
be perfect, so they let a little bit of their
guard down, and the real 'them' comes out.
Perhaps it is because in their struggle with God,
they take things out on you. All YOU have to do
is to walk into the room and whatever secret
thing they are dealing with rises to the surface
and they find themselves seething in anger,
shrinking in fear, or their blood pressure
rising.
Wait a minute! Did you just see that pattern?
Maybe it isn't because you are a pastor's wife or
a pastor, or even that you are in full time
ministry. Perhaps your problem lies with
something that is in your own private heart and
the only way God can address it is by bringing
someone into your life that will push all the
right buttons.
In a class I'm going to on counseling and
prayer, the remark was made that if someone
pushes your button - tough. A button being pushed
meant that you had a button to push, and the
right thing to do was instead of resisting it, go
along with the flow and allow the Lord to reveal
to you why there was a button there in the first
place. Amazing what we can find out about
ourselves when we examine our own hearts! But
then, who wants to do that? If I examine my own
heart, I may have to admit that I was wrong about
something. If I examine my own heart, I may find
out that the person that was rubbing me so wrong,
really was right, and I was the one with the
plank in my eye.
Yep. Pride is a nasty thing. We feel safe and
content in our limited opinions of ourselves and
others while we cry out to God to cause us to
grow. Yet when He applies friction to our lump of
coal in order to bring out a diamond we scream
"FOUL!"
Jesus said "You shall know the truth, and
the truth will set you free". Another pastor
once said, "It's the truth you know that
will set you free". If you don't ask
questions of God about things that are keeping
you in bondage in your life, then don't ever
expect to get set free from them.
By the way. Pointing fingers doesn't work,
that only gets you 'another lap'. While watching
a talk show recently, the guest made an
interesting comment. She said in regards to those
people who come into your life and cause a great
deal of pain, "They are God's kids, and they
came in your life to teach you something you
would never have learned otherwise. Give thanks
for them!"
It's true. The most painful experiences of my
life resulted in the most freeing revelations
about myself. Not only that, they created
character and patience in me that I wouldn't
trade for all the money in the world. True. I
wouldn't want to do it over again. Nor do I look
forward to the next painful event in my life. But
this one thing I do know. God is faithful, He
will not allow me to be forsaken, and all things
work together for good to those who love Him.
Rather than curse the season you are in, or
have been in for some time because you refused to
look inward, thank the Lord that He cares enough
to apply pressure to your lump of coal to create
a priceless diamond. God is doing a GOOD work in
you, and will finish it up to the day you stand
before Jesus Christ, and that Glorious Saviour
will gaze lovingly into your eyes and say,
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant!
Enter thou into the JOY of Thy Lord."

David was a man after God's own heart Even though
he was a murderer and an Adulterer. Why? Because
he was QUICK to repent and admit he was wrong.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Shannon, we are on a family vacation in
northern MN with all of our kids/grandkids thanks
to our dear sil's job and one of the fringe
benefits. (Which reminds me how bountifully God
has blessed us).
One of the things I was discussing with our
oldest daughter, who is also a pw is in re: to a
mission statement. She has done this and refers
to it often to help her keep on target with life
goals.
I would be interested in hearing other pw's
views on this--and esp. if they would be willing
to share their own personal mission statement.
This is something I would like to work on. I
think that I have my goals clearly in mind, but
perhaps I'm leaving out something important??
Your thoughts???
Dot
If you would like to share with us your
mission statement, or what you think is important
to include in a mission statement, please respond
to Dot's letter and mail to SarahsTent@aol.com
We will post the results in upcoming JITKs.

Preachers Wives
By FRank22862
There is one great person in your church, who
knows your preacher's life .
She's wept and smiled and prayed with him, and
that's your preacher's wife!
She knows one prophet's weakest point and knows
his greatest power.
She's heard him speak in trumpet tone, in his
great triumph hour.
She's heard him groan in his soul, when bitter
raged the strife, as hand in his she knelt with
him-for she's a preachers wife!
The crowd has seen him in his strength, when
gleamed his drawn sword, as underneath God's
banner folds, he faced the devil's horde.
But she knows deep within her heart, that scarce
an hour before, she helped him pray the glory
down, behind a closet door!
You tell your tales of prophets brave who walked
around the world and changed the course of
history, by burning words they hurled/
And I will tell how back of them some women lived
their lives Who wept with them and smiled with
them they were the preachers wives!
