The House We
Build
Submitted by Carol Kirkwood
An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of
his plans to leave the house-building business and live a more leisurely
life with his wife enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but
he needed to retire. They could get by.
The contractor was sorry to see his
good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a
personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that
his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used
inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.
When the carpenter finished his work, the employer came to inspect the
house. He handed the front-door key to the carpenter. "This is your house,"
he said, "my gift to you."
The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was
building his own house, he would have done it all so differently.
So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less
than our best into the building. Then with a shock we realize we have to
live in the house we have built. If we could do it over, we'd do it much
differently. But we cannot go back.
You are the carpenter. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a
wall. "Life is a do-it-yourself project," someone has said. Your
attitudes and the choices you make today, build the "house" you live in
tomorrow. Build wisely! - Work like you don't need the money.
- Love like you've never been hurt. - Dance like nobody is watching.

BUDDY GROUP TIPS
I would like to continue writing to one person in my buddy group,
but don't want to send the letter to the whole group. How can I
do this?
By now you know the email address of the person that
you are wanting to correspond with. Rather than hitting
'Reply", copy and paste, or type the name into your 'Send'
window. That's it! The whole group will be spared, and you and
your new friend can chat till the cows come home!
Remember - it's summer time! Don't get discouraged if it takes awhile
for someone to answer your email. They could be on vacation!

Today's recipe is one that I've heard raved about by several people so I had to try it myself. It is great! It's one of those recipes you'll like to use often.
BARB'S BAKED BEEF STEW
1 to 2 lbs. stew beef
1 envelope dry onion soup mix
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup
1 Tablespoon Kitchen Bouquet
4 raw potatoes
6 raw carrots
3/4 can water (soup can)
Layer meat in large baking dish or 9 x 13 cake pan. Sprinkle with Kitchen Bouquet. Spread soups over meat. Add vegetables in layers. Pour water over. Cover tightly with foil and bake in 300 degree oven for 5 hours. DON'T PEAK! That is the secret. (Cut potatoes in chunks and thickly slice carrots).

CHUCKLES & THOUGHTS
Submitted by:
My husband decided to preach a sermon on 'Releasing the Power of the Holy Spirit." So he brought a skill saw to church with him and a big 2 x 4 to saw into symbolizing power. His late father was a carpenter and I am sure he would have laughed when my husband started sawing into that wood, preaching as hard as he could above the sound of the saw, and a big piece flew off and hit one of the elderly ladies in one of the front pews. After making sure she wasn't harmed, the whole congregation started laughing so hard that my husband (who was trying to keep his dignity) finally dissolved into laughter with them. To this day, every time we have an illustrated sermon, that poor lady moves back several pews! -
