SINKING SHIP OR LEADERSHIP?
Shannon Parish Shannon@completedpeople.com
The story is the same. A pastor and his wife, filled with visions of
promise and impacting the world, set out to change their city by
building a church. With hearts filled with hope, they invest all they
have emotionally, physically and mentally into their ministry.
People come and yes, people go. They discuss among themselves what
the problem might be, that people are not staying as long as they wish
they would. Eventually a few faithful families come along side and
the pastor mentally rubs his hands together and says, “Okay now
we’re getting some where. Let’s build a church!”
Years pass, programs come and go. People still come and go. Suddenly,
for what seems without cause, an elder begins to question methods.
People get frustrated and strife rumbles through the ranks setting
the congregation on edge.
Finances dry up as people, shaken by gossip and overturning
leadership, withhold their tithes and offerings. The pastor and his
wife brace their hearts and try to calm the rising voices of fear and
doubt from the naysayers and “Chicken Littles.”
“The sky is falling! The sky is falling!” “This ship is going down!”
Voices proclaim as friends and church members exit the building.
Panic and accusations fly and in hopeless desperation the pastor and
his wife throw up their hands and cry out to God. “Why us?” “We
haven’t done anything to deserve this!” “We can’t do what God has
called us to do without so much fighting and bitterness.”
Other leaders nod and offer their sage advice, “You must be doing
something right, or else the enemy wouldn’t be fighting you so hard.”
So the pastor and his wife hang on longer until financial ruin and
public humiliation rip apart their lives. The children suffer and the
marriage relationship falls apart. The church is closed and people
nod their heads and say, “See, I told you it was going down.” I guess
the enemy won. Where was God in all of this?

LETTERS
=================================================================
“I'm not sure who is responsible for "Sarah's Tent," but from the
bottom of my heart I want
to thank you for the encouragement it has brought to me. I'm not a
Pastor, but presently serve as Chairman of our Deacon's Council. Our
Pastor is being slandered by a former member (prominent) of our church
and it is gut wrenching and so painful, for all of us to witness.
Then
I found your site and was reminded, through the scriptures you
highlighted, that we must look to our Lord, for it is only through Him
that we can find strength and peace. May God richly bless your
ministry.”
A Brother in Christ, KD
EDITOR: Thank you for sharing KD, letters like yours make it all worth
while! (The page KD refers to is at:

TIPS
=================================================================
1. Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords. It keeps them
neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.
2. Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes
will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with
towels and linen.
3. Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at
least 3 hours prior to burning.

COMPUTER TIPS
=================================================================
Here are some of my recent discoveries to keeping my computer clean
and junk mail free!
1. SPYBOT this is free shareware that is outstanding in locating and
destroying those annoying little programs and cookies that are
downloaded to your computer without your knowledge from a variety of
sources. These programs are called adware programs. They report back
to marketers what you are buying and where you are researching on the
Internet. Programs like Gator and Comet Curser are big ones. If you’ve
noticed an increase in junk mail and pornography, you will want to
download this terrific program. (Even though, its free there is a
place to make a donation. Well worth what the program does. Read the
directions carefully!)
Download at: http://spybot.safer-networking.de/
2. ROBOFORM To replace your Gater Internet wallet that you will be
sure to want to replace, check out this nifty program. Well worth the
$29.95. Keep all your passwords, sensitive information, credit cards
in this wallet password protected if you wish only on your
computer and NEVER sending out information to marketers or
advertisers. This program rests on your computer and encrypts your
information. It also fills in forms for you so that you don’t have to
constantly re-type in your contact information. (Imports the personal
information you entered into Gator for you, so you don’t have to
re-enter it.)
Download at: http://www.roboform.com/
3. SPAMKILLER This program has easily saved me at least two hours a
day deleting junk email and spam. It catches about 80-95% of your
junk email. Before you permanently eliminate your killed spam, you can
view it to make sure newsletters such as the JITK have not been
eliminated as spam to retrieve them. At $39.95 its been worth its
weight in gold!

TRAVEL TIPS
=================================================================
1. Leave metallic jewelry at home or in your suitcase when traveling.
Wear items that won’t set off security scanners and delay your
boarding. 2. When checking into your hotel room, check to make sure
any connecting doors to adjoining rooms are locked. Unplug or turn off
the alarm clock in case someone thought they’d play a joke and give
you a 3 am wake up call.
3. If your bag is lost and you need necessities, most airlines will
give you an overnight kit and/or give you a voucher to purchase
necessary items. Always ask, and always say thank you.

REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION
=================================================================
REQUEST:
HELP! We’ve done everything we know and we can’t seem to put a stop to
unnecessary gossip, division and dangerous assumptions in our church.
We’re at our wits end and our marriage is suffering. No one seems to
have an answer for us and we’re tired of pat answers. Do you know of
ANY resource that will help turn this mess around? We’re ready to
quit the ministry if this doesn’t stop.
SOLUTION:
Like you, there was no one there to help us through the most traumatic
events of our lives. It wasn’t until years later that we attended a
seminar that not only dramatically facilitated huge change in our
marriage, but in our lives and every decision we’ve made since.
Even though the seminar was secular in nature, the founder is a strong
believer and often preaches in churches and will do this seminar in a
church setting, complete with scriptural basis.
This was the best investment we have ever made. The best part is that
once you pay, you can attend as many more of these as you want, nation
wide, for the rest of your life. AND if you decide it didn’t do a
thing for you they give you your money back.
If I could personally foot the bill just to get every pastor I knew to
go, I would do it in a heart beat. (I’m working on it!)
The man’s name is Brian Klemmer. Visit his site at:
http://klemmer.com The site is geared towards a secular audience.
Contact them and ask for tapes of Brian preaching to hear for
yourself. In all my years of working with the professional speaking
industry, I’ve never run across anything this effective.

and share from the Its usually in the kitchen, and the answers you get
put joy in the kitchen.
Why is it called Sarah’s Tent? Because Abraham was the father of many,
and was very much like the first pastor, with Sarah being the first
pastors wife, who was instructed to lengthen her cords and strengthen
her stakes to make room for more in hospitality. Isa 51:1-2 / Isa
54:2-3 / Heb 10:24-25
